A group wild monkeys attacked passers-by a Japanese seaside town, injuring 26 people, a town official said Tuesday.
The monkeys appeared in gardens and streets, biting people the back and legs. Local authorities using loudspeakers warned residents beware of the monkeys as the town organized a hunt them.
“We have move fast to do something these monkeys the people here are scared death,” the official said.
The injuries were slight and all the victims received injections rabies.
The wave of attacks a group of six monkeys occurred Sunday morning and Monday evening in the central Japanese town Ito.
“This is the first this has happened and we’re not sure why it happened,” the official said. “We’ve had a lot snow in the mountains the past of weeks so maybe the monkeys looking food below.”
